A funeral service for
Dorotha Lee Baker, age
88, will be at 10:00
A.M. Wednesday, March
11, 2009, at the
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home Chapel, with Rev.
Dan O’Daniel
officiating. Burial
will be the Waukomis
Cemetery, with
arrangements by
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home. Visitation with
the family will be
Tuesday evening from
6:30 to 8:00 PM at the
funeral home.
She was born to Ira
and Rose (Gyer) Johnson
on April 28, 1920 in
Graham, Texas, and died
Saturday, March 7, 2009,
at her home in Enid.
Dorotha’s family
moved to the Enid area
when she was a child.
She graduated from
Waukomis High School,
where she was in choir
and played basketball.
On July 22, 1939, she
married Elwin Lee Baker
in Waukomis, and they
made their home on a
farm north of
Covington. They lived
there for five years
before moving to a farm
east of Garber. They
raised cattle and
operated a dairy for
many years and also
raised quarter horses.
Dorotha was a homemaker
and farmer’s wife. In
1979, they moved into
Enid, but continued to
farm. She wrote poetry,
and loved attending her
grandchildren’s
activities, horse shows,
and ballgames. The
Bakers enjoyed traveling
all over the country to
attend horse races.
Dorotha was a member of
Cowboy Church.
She is survived by
her husband Elwin of the
home; two daughters,
Kondra Wedel and husband
Delmar of Garber, and
Sheryl Powell and
husband Marvin of
Covington; eight
grandchildren, Rex and
Donnesia Wedel and their
children Natawsha,
Tyler, Chase and Mason;
Jana Kay Snow and her
children, Braden,
Dalton, Dakota and
Dillin; Reese and
Christina Wedel, and
their children, Nicole,
Devin and Amanda, Rance
Wedel and his children
Darryan, Dakima and
Dobbs, Dawn and Rodney
Eggers and their
children, Jordan and
Carson, Joelle Powell,
and Jodie Baker and her
daughter Taylor
Licklighter, and Jon
Baker; and three
great-great
grandchildren, Callie,
Aara and Miley.
Dorotha was
preceded in death by one
son Bill, grandson Lance
Powell, and brother Don
Johnson.
Memorials
may be made through the
funeral home to Ross
Hospice.
