The funeral for Billy
Gene Henthorn, age 78,
will be at 1:00 P.M.
Friday, Sept. 29, 2006
at the Anderson-Burris
Funeral Home Chapel,
with Rev. John McLemore
officiating and Rev. Don
Angle assisting. Burial
will follow in the Del
Norte Cemetery,
Drummond, OK.
Bill was
born Oct. 5, 1927 in
Enid, OK to Albert and
Lois Wilson Henthorn,
and died Monday, Sept.
25, 2006 at St. Mary’s
Regional Medical
Center. He attended
grade school in Enid and
then moved with his
family near Ringwood,
OK, where he attended
Glade Country School,
and graduated from Cleo
Springs High School.
Bill and his twin
brother Bob served
together in the U.S.
Navy Air Corp during the
Korean War from Aug. 9,
1950 to June 8, 1954,
aboard the aircraft
carriers USS Bon Homme
Richard 31 and USS
Oriskany 34. Bill
served as aviation
machinist’s mate, third
class, attached to
Fighter Squadron 124.
On June 11,
1954, he married Dorothy
Helen Maidment of
Oklahoma City, OK, in
Pacific Beach, CA, and
they made Enid their
home. He worked for
Union Equity Cooperative
Exchange and retired
after 43 years as
superintendent of
Elevator Y. He was
active in Boy Scouts of
America and served as
Scout Master for Troop
13. Bill was a member
of Central Christian
Church, Sooner Sunday
School Class, Levis’n
Lace Square Dance Club
and North Enid Lions
Club.
Surviving is
his wife Dorothy of the
home; a son, Thomas
Edwin Henthorn and wife
Yolanda, and
grandchildren, Kris
Lowe, Matthew, Danielle
and Billy of Mountain
View, CA; a daughter,
Donna Kay Henthorn and
grandchildren, Jessica
and Jordan Goff of Enid;
brothers Marcus of Enid,
and Bob of Moore, OK.
He was
preceded in death by his
parents, two brothers,
Paul and Vertis, and
three sisters, Sybil
Ross, Verneal Ernie, and
Phyllis Nusz.
