The funeral for Carol
Belcher Collins, 81,
will be at 2:00 P.M.
Monday, June 30, 2008,
at First United
Methodist Church, with
Rev. Susan Southall
officiating. Burial
will be in Memorial Park
Cemetery, with
arrangements by
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home. Visitation with
the family will be
Sunday from 4:00 to 5:30
P.M. at the funeral
home.
She was born
to Page and Gladys
Collins Belcher on Dec.
28, 1926 in Enid, and
died Thursday, June 26,
2008, at her home in
Enid.
Carol grew
up in Enid. On Dec.14,
1946, she married Clyde
V. Collins, and they
celebrated 50 years of
marriage prior to his
death in 1997. She
excelled in many
activities, including
sewing, flying and
cooking. Her greatest
passion was golf wherein
she achieved fame and
recognition as both a
player and an official.
She held seven course
records, including
Oakwood Country Club,
and won numerous Club
Championships. During
her playing career, she
qualified and played in
the U.S. Women’s Open.
Driven by her love of
the game, she
participated in many
areas of officiating and
course rating. She
served as a rules
official for the U.S.
Women’s Open, the NCAA
National Championship,
Mid-Am Championship, and
traveled the country
contributing her time
and talent to state and
national golf events for
many years. In 2006,
she was inducted into
the Women’s Oklahoma
Golf Association Hall of
Fame, where she also
served as a board
member.
She was a
past president of Junior
Welfare League, and
served on Oakwood
Country Club Board of
Directors. She was a
lifelong member of First
United Methodist Church,
and an honorary delegate
of the Republican
National Convention.
Carol is
survived by two sons,
Craig Collins and David
Collins, both of Enid;
six grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; and
brother Page Belcher,
Jr. of Enid.
She was
preceded in death by her
parents.
