She was born to James Hanibal and Minnie Bell (Cannoy) Hill on August 15, 1911, in Broken Arrow, OK, and died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, in Enid.

Verna grew up in Broken Arrow, graduating High School in 1929.  She attended school at the State Teachers College in Tahlequah.  On May 5, 1931, she married Gomer Adams Davis in Ardmore, and they made their home in Sioux City, Iowa before moving to Enid in 1940.  She graduated from  Moore Beauty College until 1943, and then worked as an instructor there.  She then worked for Dr. N.L. Hastings as an Assistant until 1963.  She worked at the Gau-Scott Medical Clinic until her retirement.   Many of the patients became her friends, and she loved being around children.  Verna was the past president of the Excelsior Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association.  She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Argone Post  since 1940.  Verna was a member of Shriners Ladies of Enid and actively supported the Shriners Hospitals for Children.    She was also a member of Broken Arrow Methodist Church.  She has resided at The Commons Methodist Retirement Center, and made many friends of residents and staff.  We wish to thank all the staff for the great concern they have given to Verna.

She is survived by her two cousins, Bill Davis and wife Dee of Amarillo, TX, and Jim Davis and daughter Valerie of Portland, OR; niece Elizabeth Hill of Atlanta, GA; special friend Maxine Crawford of Norman; and longtime friends and caregivers Tom and Susan Williams, of Enid.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gomer in 1973, and four brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to The Commons Methodist Retirement Living Center.
