The funeral service for
Verna Kathryn Hill
Davis, age 97, will be
at 10:00 AM Saturday,
July 25, 2009, at the
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home Chapel, with Rev.
Jim Jones officiating.
Burial will be in
Memorial Park Cemetery,
with arrangements by
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home.
She was born to
James Hanibal and Minnie
Bell (Cannoy) Hill on
August 15, 1911, in
Broken Arrow, OK, and
died Tuesday, July 21,
2009, in Enid.
Verna grew up in
Broken Arrow, graduating
High School in 1929.
She attended school at
the State Teachers
College in Tahlequah.
On May 5, 1931, she
married Gomer Adams
Davis in Ardmore, and
they made their home in
Sioux City, Iowa before
moving to Enid in 1940.
She graduated from
Moore Beauty College
until 1943, and then
worked as an instructor
there. She then worked
for Dr. N.L. Hastings as
an Assistant until
1963. She worked at the
Gau-Scott Medical Clinic
until her retirement.
Many of the patients
became her friends, and
she loved being around
children. Verna was the
past president of the
Excelsior Chapter of the
American Business
Women’s Association.
She was a member of the
American Legion Women’s
Auxiliary Argone Post
since 1940. Verna was a
member of Shriners
Ladies of Enid and
actively supported the
Shriners Hospitals for
Children. She was
also a member of Broken
Arrow Methodist Church.
She has resided at The
Commons Methodist
Retirement Center, and
made many friends of
residents and staff. We
wish to thank all the
staff for the great
concern they have given
to Verna.
She is survived
by her two cousins, Bill
Davis and wife Dee of
Amarillo, TX, and Jim
Davis and daughter
Valerie of Portland, OR;
niece Elizabeth Hill of
Atlanta, GA; special
friend Maxine Crawford
of Norman; and longtime
friends and caregivers
Tom and Susan Williams,
of Enid.
Verna was
preceded in death by her
parents, her husband
Gomer in 1973, and four
brothers.
Memorials may be made
through the funeral home
to The Commons Methodist
Retirement Living
Center.
