A funeral service for Don Edward Whitsitt, age 76, will be at 2:00PM Monday, Sept, 11, 2006, at the Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Don Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be Sunday evening from 4:00PM - 5:00PM at the funeral home.

He was born to Chandaws R. and Maude V. (Wurst) Whitsitt on Feb. 3, 1930, in Enid, and died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006, at his home in Enid.

He grew up in Enid, graduating from Enid High School in 1948. On Feb. 14, 1949, he married Davida Lee Wehling in Enid, where they made their home. Don was in the 45th Division of the Oklahoma National Guard, serving in Japan and Korea. He received the Bronze Star Medal in 1952, and retired from the National Guard in 1974 as a Captain. Don was employed by Baker Manufacturing for 35 years, working as a purchasing agent, salesman, and manager. He was a member of the Enid Noon Lions Club for 22 years, and he was Master Mason. Don was a member of Central Christian Church, where he served a a deacon and past treasurer of the Sooner Sunday School Class. He was also a past president of the Thunderbird Travel Club and a volunteer certified auxiliary deputy for Garfield County for 16 years. His hobbies were golfing, fishing, hunting and camping.

Don is survived by his wife Davida of the home; one daughter, Susan Williams and husband Tom of Enid; five sisters, Viola, Mearl, Bessie, Gloria and Gerry and husband Don Nave; and brother-in-law, R.J. Wehling.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Oral, George, Preston and Robert; and one sister Helen.
