The funeral
service for Donald Joe
Laster, age 67, will be
at 11:00 A.M. Saturday,
May 3, 2008, at the
First Missionary Baptist
Church, with Rev. Alfred
Baldwin, Jr.
officiating. Burial
will be in Memorial Park
Cemetery, with
arrangements by
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home.
He was born
to Johnnie and Herbaline
(Brakebill) Laster on
February 3, 194l in
Oklahoma City, and died
Friday, April 25, 2008,
at Integris Bass Baptist
Medical Center in Enid.
Donald grew
up in Enid, and
graduated from Booker T.
Washington High School.
On June 20, 1961, he
married Mary Brown in
Enid. He served in the
United States Navy, and
retired with over twenty
years of service. After
an honorable discharge
from the Navy, he
returned to Enid, where
he worked with his
father at Laster & Son
Tree Service. He was
also a school bus driver
for over twenty years.
He served on the Enid
Metro Housing Council
and on the board of
directors at Booker T.
Washington. He was the
Chairman of the Board of
Trustees and the
Chairman of the housing
committee of the
Southern Heights
Community Organization,
and he was a Mason.
Donald was an active
member of First
Missionary Baptist
Church, where he was a
head deacon, Sunday
School teacher, and
pianist. He enjoyed
hunting, fishing, and
attending sporting
events.
He is
survived by his wife
Mary, of the home; two
daughters, Barbara
Laster of Enid and Carla
Williams of Los Angeles,
California, and; one
son, Richard Laster of
Trier, Germany; four
grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren;
three sisters, Mary
Porter and Herbaline
Bastas, both of Enid,
and Muriel Allen of
Albuquerque, New Mexico;
brothers and sisters in
Christ, Roma and Hope
Smith of Kansas City,
Missouri, and James and
Leola Hunter; and many
nieces and nephews.
Donald was
preceded in death by his
parents Johnnie and
Herbaline Laster; two
brothers, James Laster
and Michael Hegwood; and
one sister Johnetta
Fitzpatrick.
