memorial service for
Robert “Joe” Frei, 87
year old Enid resident
will be Tuesday,
September 1, 2009 at
10:30 a.m. in the
Central Christian Church
Chapel with the Reverend
John McLemore and
Chaplin Shorty Unruh
officiating. Inurnment
will be at 3:00 p.m. in
the Hardtner Cemetery,
Hardtner, Kansas with
military rites.
Arrangements are by
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home and Crematory,
Enid.
Joe was born to William
Robert and Elsie
(Hauser) Frei on June
29, 1922 one mile south
of Hardtner, Kansas in
Woods County, Oklahoma,
and passed away on
August 27, 2009 in Enid,
Oklahoma.
He attended Eldred
School in Barber County,
Kansas and Hardtner High
School, graduating in
1941. Joe enlisted in
the U.S. Navy on October
10, 1942 and was
discharged on July 21,
1943. He enlisted in the
Army Air Corps on
October 22, 1943 and was
discharged on February
18, 1946. On August 21,
1946, he married June
Johnson at Oswego,
Kansas. To this union
one daughter, Pamela Kay
(1947) and one son
Robert Herschel (1951)
was born.
Joe farmed and ranched
at Hardtner Kansas for
seven years. Then they
moved to Freedom,
Oklahoma, where he
farmed and ranched until
1970. Joe worked for
Woods County, District
2, retiring in 1984.
Joe and June moved to
Enid in 1991, and later
to Golden Oaks
Retirement Village. Joe
was a member of Central
Christian Church
Disciples of Christ,
American Legion, Elks
Lodge, and Cowboy
Storytellers.
He was preceded in death
by one brother, two
sisters, and three
grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his
wife, June of the home;
one daughter, Pamela Kay
Rogers of Woodward,
Oklahoma; one son,
Robert Herschel Frei of
Alva; 4 grandchildren; 3
great granddaughters;
nieces, nephews, and
other relatives.
Memorials may be made
through the funeral home
to Central Christian
Church.
