            A funeral service for George Edward Carr, Jr., age 74, of Owasso, formerly of Enid, will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 13, 2006, at the Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Ron Chastine officiating. Burial will be in the White Cemetery in Hunter, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be Thursday from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

            He was born to George Edward and Catherine (Allen) Carr on December 23, 1931, in Elmira, New York, and died Sunday, October 8, 2006, in Owasso.

            George grew up in New York, graduating from Moravia High School in 1950. He joined the United States Air Force in 1950 and was stationed at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, and the served fourteen months in Korea. On June 1, 1952, he married Wilma Jean Grantz, and was then stationed in Bangor, Maine. After his time in the service, they returned to make their home in Enid. George was an Insurance and Real Estate Agent until he purchased an 18-wheeler and became a cross-country truck driver. He drove for 25 years before retiring in 1995, and earned a plaque for two million miles without an accident. He was a pilot and had his own plane. George was a great singer, leading revivals and church choirs all over the state. He was and artist and wrote music, poems and western books. Most of all, he was a wonderful husband, dad and grandpa, who loved his family very much. He will be terribly missed.

            He is survived by his wife, Jean, of the home in Owasso; one son, Rick Carr of Sulphur; two daughters, Debby Wanzer and husband don of Enid, and Janet Blake and husband Mike of Owasso; three grandsons, Philip, Kyle and Nathan Wanzer; two granddaughters, Carra and Lauren Blake; and a host of relatives and friends.

            Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the family to be decided at a later time.
