             A graveside service for Harry George Smith, age 89, will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 5, 2009, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Meno, with Rev. Terry Chick officiating.  Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.  Visitation with the family will be Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the funeral home.

             He was born to Henry J. and Hilda (Johnson) Smith on February 22, 1920 near Meno, and went to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 3, 2009, at his home in Lahoma.

             Harry graduated from Oklahoma Bible Academy and enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp in September 1941.  He served in the 8th Air Force 91st Bomb Group, stationed in England from 1942 to 1945.  He was honorably discharged in September 1945 with the rank of Sergeant.  On May 24, 1947, he married Mary Edna Dougherty in Enid.   His life’s work was building and maintaining aircraft, first at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas from 1948 – 1959, and then Vance Air Force Base from 1959 – 1985.

             He is survived by his wife Mary Edna of the home; two sons, Larry Smith of Tonkawa, and Darrell Smith of Midwest City; three daughters, Carolyn Burnett of Lahoma, Cherlyn  Carpenter of Enid, and Deborah Darby of Syracuse, UT; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Marion Smith of Enid, George Smith of Wheatridge, CO, Roger Smith of Edmond, and Delton Smith of Enid;  six sisters, Beatrice Schmidt of Wichita, KS, Gladys Koehn of Montezuma, KS, Geraline Buller of Meno, Margie Welch of Irving, TX, Peggy Smith of Del City, and Lucinda Sisson of Midwest City.

             Harry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Willis.
