The funeral service for
Marcus “Mark” Elbert
Henthorn, age 83, will
be at 2:00 PM Sunday,
November 1, 2009, at the
New Hope United
Methodist Church, with
Rev. Sheila
Combs-Francis and
Chaplain Shorty Unruh
officiating. Burial
will be in the Karoma
Cemetery, Goltry, with
arrangements by
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home. Visitation with
the family will be
Saturday evening from
6:00 to 7:30 PM at the
funeral home.
He was born to
Albert and Lois (Wilson)
Henthorn on January 25,
1926, in Enid, and
passed away on Thursday,
October 29, 2009, at
Golden Oaks Retirement
Village in Enid
Mark graduated
from Carrier High School
in 1944. On March 15,
1944, he married Verna
M. Jantz in Fairview.
He served in the Army
Air Corp during World
War II for almost two
years. After his
military service the
couple moved to Enid,
where Mark worked at
Union Equity starting
out as sweeper and
working up to Elevator
Superintendent He
retired after forty
years. He was a member
of New Hope United
Methodist Church, where
he was very active.
After his retirement he
played golf almost every
day. The couple moved
to Golden Oaks over four
years ago, where Mark
enjoyed playing pool
with his friends. He
enjoyed fishing,
camping, and organizing
family get-togethers.
He loved to be with
people. Mark overcame
many difficulties and
challenges to become a
successful, giving,
loving husband and
father that provided
well for his family.
He is survived by
his wife Verna of the
home; daughter Janice
Richards and husband Tom
of Flower Mound, TX; son
Wesley Henthorn and wife
Wilma of Enid; two
grandchildren, Julie
Richards Matula and
husband Greg of Rancho
Santa Margarita, CA, and
Kelly Richards Miller
and husband Grant of
Lake Forest, CA; two
great grandchildren,
Hannah and Ryan Miller;
and brother Bob Henthorn
of Moore.
Mark was preceded
in death by his parents;
brothers Clifford,
Milton, Jim, Paul,
Vertis and Bill; and
sisters; Sybil, Verneal
and Phyllis.
Memorials may be made
through the funeral home
to Relay for Life Cancer
Fund, New Hope United
Methodist Church
Building Fund, or Golden
Oaks Chapel Fund
