memorial service for
William Richard “Dick”
Howard, age 87, will be
at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday,
March 11, 2009 at
Garriott Road Church of
Christ, with Pastor Ray
Rose officiating.
Burial will be in
Memorial Park Cemetery
before the memorial
service, with
arrangements by
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home.
He was born to
Richard Paul and
Annabell (Haney) Howard
on July 22, 1921, in
Orr, OK, and died
Saturday, March 7, 2009,
at his home in Enid.
William grew up in
Comanche, Oklahoma. On
July 3, 1941, he married
Dorothy Nadine Holland
in Portales, New Mexico,
and they made their home
in Melrose, New Mexico.
William served with the
175th
Infantry Regiment, 29th
Division during World
War II in the European
theater of operations in
England, France,
Belgium, Holland and
Germany for fourteen
months. He was a
Demolition Specialist
and Automatic Rifleman
responsible for
furnishing automatic
rifle fire for squad in
attack and defense. He
also assisted other
members of platoon and
company in capturing
enemy positions and
personnel. After his
honorable discharge, he
worked in the oilfield
in New Mexico, Texas,
Oklahoma, and Kansas.
He was a dispatcher for
Well Tech Service
Company, formerly Chris
Well Service, retiring
in 1988. William loved
to play golf and work on
golf clubs. He was a
member of Garriott Road
Church of Christ.
He is survived by
his wife Dorothy of the
home; one son Paul
Randall “Randy” Howard
and wife Kay of Enid;
two grandchildren,
Dickey Gary Howard, Jr.
and Rheadonna L. Howard,
both of Enid; and five
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in
death by one son Dickey
Gary Howard, Sr.
Memorials may be
made through the funeral
home to Garriott Road
Church of Christ.
