A funeral service for
John Lafayette Ferguson,
Jr., age 90, will be at
2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March
27, 2007, at the Trinity
Baptist Church, with
Rev. Clayton Conley
officiating.
Burial will be in
Memorial Park Cemetery,
with arrangements by
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home. Visitation
with the family will be
Monday evening from 6:30
to 8:00 P.M. at the
funeral home.
He was born
to John Lafayette and
Margaret (Popplewell)
Ferguson on May 29,
1916, in Tulsa, and died
Friday, March 23, 2007,
at Greenbrier Nursing
Home in Enid.
John grew up
in Tulsa, and on April
4, 1941, he married
Beatrice Deloris Hart in
Tulsa, where they made
their home. They
moved to Enid in the
early 1950’s, where they
owned and operated Bea’s
Bakery for thirty-two
years. Gov. David
Boren honored Bea’s
Bakery after twenty-five
years of service to the
Enid Community.
John was a member of
Trinity Baptist Church,
where he served as a
deacon. He was a
founding member of the
Men’s Club and the
Golden Nuggets at the
church. He was an
avid coin collector, and
a member of the Garfield
County Coin Collectors
Club. John enjoyed
gardening and spending
time with his family.
He is
survived by two
daughters, Mollie Smith
of Enid, Susan Hughes
and husband Ron of
Oklahoma City; two sons,
Roger Ferguson and wife
Marla of Owasso and John
L. Ferguson III and wife
Geannie of Austin TX;
son-in-law, David Unruh
of Enid; Thirteen
grandchildren; Shana
Smith, Neal Unruh, John
L. Ferguson IV, Julie
Ferguson, Kathryn
Callaway, Christopher
Ferguson, Bradley
Ferguson, Damon Boucher,
Danica Boucher, Darcy
Boucher, Charlotte
Owens, Tammy Bono and
Claudene Lindsey.
Nineteen
great-grandchildren:
Emily, Allison, Heather
and Lisa Unruh; Justin,
Kevin, Jason, Colton and
Miranda Ferguson;
Jordan, Brady, Skylar
and Alex Smith; Cassidy
and Sydney Boucher;
Brynna Hartneck; Connor
Bono; Tyler and Jordyn
Lindsey.
He was
preceded in death by his
wife, Beatrice, daughter
Deloris Unruh, two
sisters, Marceille and
Aura, and two brothers,
Edward and Fred.
Memorials may
be made through the
funeral home to Trinity
Baptist Church.
