A funeral service for
Johnnie “Maye” Coffey,
age 87, will be at 1:00
P.M. Monday, February
26, 2007, at Evangel
Assembly of God Church,
2717 W. Broadway, Enid,
with Pastor Lester Lowry
and Pastor John H.
Walker officiating.
Burial will be in the
Canton Cemetery, with
arrangements by
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home.
Maye was born
to Gus Alexander and
Janie Delilah (Louten)
Otwell on June 21, 1919
in Hot Springs,
Arkansas, and died
Wednesday, February 21,
2007, at The Commons in
Enid.
She grew up
and attended schools in
Carlton. On May 2,
1937, she married Oscar
George “Pete” Coffey in
Canton, where they made
their home. In
1949 they moved to
Eagle City, and then to
Chester in 1957, living
there until 1960, when
they moved to Fairview.
She was employed at the
Fellowship Home in
Fairview, working as a
cook from 1960 to 1990.
She was an active member
of First Assembly of God
Church in Fairview.
She did volunteer work
for the Senior Center
and hospital in
Fairview, and provided
transportation for the
elderly to attend church
and activities of daily
living. In
February 1996, she moved
to Enid. She was a
member of Evangel
Assembly of God Church.
Maye is
survived by five
daughters, Uola Waldrop
of Pampa, TX, Ethel
Unger and husband Will
of Cherokee Village, AR,
Karen Sue Wheeler and
husband Eldon of Enid;
Sybil Grose and husband
David of Oklahoma City,
Gail Slusher and husband
Paul of Oklahoma City;
two sons, Randall Coffey
and wife Christen of
Brooklyn, WI, and Lynn
Coffey and wife Amy of
Woodland, AL; twenty-one
grandchildren; twenty
great-grandchildren; one
brother Sherman Otwell
of Sallisaw; two
sisters-in-law, LueVada
Otwell of Weatherford
and LaVonta Miller of
Shawnee; and two
brothers-in-law, Elza
Coffey of Canton and
Burl Coffey of Vineyard,
NJ.
She was
preceded in death by her
husband Pete in 1993,
two infant
grandchildren, two
infant
great-grandchildren, two
brothers and two
sisters.
Memorials may
be made through the
funeral home to Evangel
Assembly of God Building
Fund.
