The funeral service for
Elna Barbara Lamunyon,
age 97, of Enid, will be
10:00 A.M. Tuesday
February 23, 2010, at
Redeemer Lutheran
Church, with Rev.
Christopher Hall
officiating. Visitation
with family will be
Monday evening from 7:00
to 8:00 PM at the
funeral home. Burial
will be in Enid Cemetery
with arrangements by
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home.
She was born to
Herman G. and Freeda Ann
(Brakhage) Benkendorf on
July 22, 1912, in Enid,
and passed away after a
lengthy illness on
Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010,
at her home in Enid.
She grew up
on a farm west of Enid
and was baptized and
confirmed at Trinity (Glenella)
Lutheran Church.
In 1930 she graduated
from Lahoma High School. On Aug. 4,
1932, she married Rex Lamunyon,
and to this union five
children were born.
They farmed all of their
life. She belonged
to Vernon Extension Club
and Valley View
Extension Club.
She was a member of
Redeemer Lutheran
Church, where she was a
Sunday School teacher, a
member of the Mary
Martha Society, and a
lifetime member of LWML. Elna
was a volunteer and
delivered “Meals on
Wheels”.
Mrs. Lamunyon is
survived by three
daughters, Leslie
Simmons and husband Pete
of Fort Collins, CO,
Jane Hubbart and husband
Duaine of Enid, and June
Brainard of Enid; one
son Emery R. Lamunyon
and wife Addie of
Waukomis; seventeen
grandchildren; forty-two
great grandchildren; and
numerous great, great
grandchildren; one
sister Leona Campbell of
Lahoma; numerous nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded
in death by her parents,
husband Rex, son David
Jesse, two brothers
Homer Benkendorf and
Melvin Benkendorf and
two sisters Zeda Theilen
and Letha Sharp.
Memorials may be made
through the funeral home
to Redeemer Lutheran
Church Building Fund of
Hospice Circle of Love.
