A private memorial service for Clarkie Jane Van Valkenburg Fuller Messman will be held at a later date.  Cremation arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

      She was born to William and Edna (Seeley) Van Valkenburg on July 16, 1915, in Enid, and died Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at her home in Enid.

      Clarkie  grew up in Enid and graduated from Enid High School.  She worked for five years at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.  Later, she became secretary and hostess at the Y.W.C.A.   She married Gordon Fuller in 1939 in Jacksonville, Florida.  He preceded her in death in 1961.  In 1969, she married Art Messman, who died in 2006.

      She is survived by two children, Judy Kyser, Victorville, California, and Gordon Van Fuller of Enid; seven grandchildren;  two sisters, Betty Ralph of Enid, and Willie Lucas of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; two step-daughters, Genievive Hendrickson of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and Peggy Wood of Melbourne, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
