A memorial mass for
Vernon A.L. Morrison, 87
of Enid, will be at
10:00 A.M. Thursday,
August 27, 2009 at St.
Francis Xavier Catholic
Church with Rev. Kevin
Ratterman as celebrant.
Inurnment will follow in
Calvary Cemetery under
the direction of
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home and Crematory.
Vernon was born on
February 17, 1922 in
Enid, Oklahoma to John
O. and Tenna E.
(Phillips) Morrison and
died on August 8, 2009
in Enid.
He grew up in Enid
and enlisted in the U.S.
Army on September 14,
1942. Vernon served
during World War II and
was a POW. He received
World War II Victory
Medal, American Campaign
Medal, European African
Middle Eastern Campaign
Medal, two bronze stars
and a Good Conduct
Medal. He was honorably
discharged on December
3, 1945. Vernon
returned to Enid after
his discharge to make
his home. He worked as
a janitor for St.
Francis Xavier Catholic
Church and St. Joseph’s
Catholic School for 18
years. Vernon was
a member of St. Francis
Xavier Catholic Church.
He will be remembered as
a wonderful and devoted
man. Vernon enjoyed his
flower gardens.
He was preceded in
death by his parents,
and one sister, Viola
Penland.
He is survived by
many friends of St.
Francis Xavier Catholic
Church.
