            A funeral service for Freddie L. Shorter, age 85, of Weatherford, formerly of Enid will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 14, 2007, at the First Assembly of God Church, with Rev. Dan Barrick and Rev. Lester Lowery officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with arrange-ments by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.  Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

            He was born to Hamon and Susie (Clemont) Shorter on March 28, 1922, in Shawnee, and died Monday, June 11, 2007 in Weatherford.

            Freddie grew up in Shawnee and attended schools there.  On April 10, 1943, he married Lydia Martin in Enid, and for the next three years they made their home from Ft. Sill and Wichita Falls to Springfield, Mass., while he served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.  He was then employed with Civil Service in Aircraft and Aeronautics.  He attended Southwestern Assemblies of God College, earning his Ministerial Degree.  He was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God, and earned his 50 year pin.  He was a member of Enid First Assembly of God Church before moving to Weatherford to be near family.  He was also a member of the D.A.V.

            Rev. Shorter is survived by his wife Lydia, of the home; two sons, Phillip L. Shorter, and wife Carol Lynn of Trophy Club, TX, and Dale W. Shorter and wife Gilda of Ft. Worth, TX; one daughter Janice  E. Bowden and husband Doug of Weatherford, OK; five grandchildren, Stanley Bowden, Andrea Britton, Dustin Bowden, Dayla Shorter and Dayton Shorter; three great-grandchildren, Michael Britton, Jordane Britton, and Stanley Bowden II; one brother Leroy Shorter of Del City.

            He was preceded in death by one brother, four sisters, and one great-grandchild.

            Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Light for the Lost, Fire Bibles, or D.A.V.
