A service for Stella
“Irene” Richmond, age
86, of Enid, will be at
2:00 P.M. Wednesday,
December 10, 2008, at
Richmond Chapel located
North of Wappapello,
Missouri. Burial will
follow in Richmann
Cemetery. Viewing and
visitation will be only
on Monday, with the
family present from 7:00
to 8:30 P.M. Monday
evening at
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home.
She was born to
Charles Calvin and Daisy
Marie (Hess) Archer on
September 27, 1922, in
Lilbourn, Missouri, and
died Friday, December 5,
2008, at Integris Bass
Medical Center in Enid,
OK.
Irene grew up in
Painton and Wayne
County, Missouri and
attended Zelma High
School. During World
War II, she worked at a
Small Arms Defense
Factory in St. Louis
riveting bomb fuses.
Her name is listed on
the Veterans Honor Wall
in Washington DC for her
work during the war.
After the war, she
worked at a curtain
factory in St. Louis.
On March 23, 1950, she
married Melford “Doyle”
Richmond in Pocahontas,
Arkansas, and they made
their home in Enid,
Oklahoma. Irene was a
homemaker and mother,
and then worked at the
Enid State School for
eighteen years, retiring
in 1987. She was a
member of West Side
Baptist Church.
She is survived by
her husband Doyle of the
home; two daughters,
Janet Richmond of
Midwest City, and Diane
Jack and her husband
Michael of Austin, TX;
one grandchild Darcy
Jack of Austin, TX; one
brother David Archer of
Columbia, IL; and two
sisters Genevieve Hogue
of Dupo, IL and Rosemary
Weston of Waterloo, IL.
Irene was preceded
in death by an infant
brother.
Memorials may be made
through the funeral home
to West Side Baptist
Church.
