Lucile was born
in Enid to Pete Markos
and Grace Haworth Markos
on December 31, 1923.
Her mother passed away
when she was 8 months
old. Her aunt and
uncle, James and Vivian
Markos, along with her
father, raised her. She
attended Enid schools,
graduating from Enid
High School in 1941.
She was a member of the
Enid Legionettes Drum
and Bugle Corps for 4
years. During World War
II, she worked at the
Enid Army Air Field (now
Vance) for 4 years. On
June 30, 1946, she
married Melvin W.
Schroeder in Enid. They
farmed and raised cattle
southeast of Enid. They
also bred, raised, and
raced thoroughbred
horses. They belonged
to a square dance club,
card club, and she sang
in the church choir.
They moved to Enid in
1978. Lucile traveled
to Athens, Greece, twice
to be with her beloved
aunts, uncles and
cousins. Her dear
friend, Tammy Gatten,
made the trip to Greece
with her the first
time. She was a member
of St. Paul’s Lutheran
Church.
She was a devoted
mother, grandmother, and
great grandmother. Her
family was her pride and
joy, and her love for
them was unconditional.
