The funeral
service for Kenneth Dean
Swanson, age 87, will be
at 10:00 A.M. Thursday,
December 3, 2009, at the
First Assembly of God
Church, with Rev. Dan
Barrick and Rev. Marilyn
Murray officiating.
Burial will be in the
Waukomis Cemetery, with
Military Rites by the
Army Honor Guard.
Arrangements are by
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home.
He was born to
George Andrew and Sarah
Elizabeth (Shelley)
Swanson on November 25,
1922, in Walters, and
died Sunday, November
29, 2009, at his home in
Enid.
Kenneth grew up in
Walters, Empire, and
Duncan. He served in
the United States Army
in the Antitank
Infantry, Patoon 289, 8th
Division, during World
War II in the European
Theater, earning a
Purple Heart. On
November 19, 1965, he
married Martha Becker in
Kingfisher, and they
made their home in
Enid. He worked for
various oil companies as
tool pusher, drilling
superintendent and
consultant. After
retirement his favorite
pastime was playing
Dominoes at the AmVets
Club, and he loved to
watch western movies and
read western books. He
attended First Assembly
of God Church.
He is survived by
his wife Martha of the
home; four daughters,
Ashley Swanson of Enid,
Barbara Tabor and James
Rossen, of
Enid, Gayla Norris and
husband Ken of Sullivan,
IL, and Debra Fulton and
husband Victor of
Waukomis; one son James
Hill and wife Kim of Southhill, WA; eighteen
grandchildren;
thirty-five
great-grandchildren; and
two sisters, Gertrude
Crawford and Patsy
Delores Vincent of
Ramona.
Kenneth was
preceded in death by his
parents, one sister
Lillian Hall, one
daughter Diana Upchurch,
and six brothers.
Memorials may be made
through the funeral home
to Oklahoma Medical
Research Foundation –
Heart or Cancer
Division.
