A graveside service for
Bette June Tippin, age
87, of Enid, will be at
2:00 P.M. Sunday,
February 1, 2009, at the
Wakita Cemetery, with
Rev. Dan O’Daniel
officiating. Cremation
arrangements are by
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home and Crematory.
There will be no
visitation or viewing at
the funeral home. The
register book will be at
the graveside service.
She was born to
Floyd Emmitt and Harriet
Elizabeth (Pitzer)
Slaughter on June 12,
1921, in Wakita, and
died Wednesday, January
28, 2009, at St. Mary’s
Regional Medical Center
in Enid.
Bette grew up
in Wakita and graduated
from Wakita High
School. On April 10,
1938, she married Harold
Benjamin Tippin in
Cherokee, and they made
their home in the Wakita
area, where they farmed
for many years. Bette
worked at the grocery
store, bank, and was a
secretary for the
Superintendent at Wakita
High School. She also
owned and operated BJ
Curiosity Shop. After
their retirement from
farming, they moved to
Enid in 1992. She
enjoyed fishing,
gardening, crocheting
and knitting. Bette
attended the Cowboy
Church.
She is survived
by daughter Carla
Horning of Enid, son
John Tippin of Honolulu,
Hawaii; eleven
grandchildren;
twenty-eight great
grandchildren; and nine
great
great-grandchildren.
Bette was
preceded in death by her
husband Bennie on
4/14/07, two daughters,
Sharon Mattingly and
Judith Nathan; one
brother, and two
sisters.
