The funeral service for Mary Elizabeth
Wehling, age 90, of Waukomis, will be at 2:00
P.M. Friday, August 14, 2009, at the Pioneer
High School, with Rev. Ron Graber and Rev. Tom
Donaldson officiating. Visitation with the
family will be Thursday evening from 6:00 to
7:30 PM at the Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
The casket will be open from 12:30 to 2:00 PM
before the service. Burial will be in the
Waukomis Cemetery.
She was born to John Thomas and
Katharine (Bregenzer) Edwards on November 26,
1918, on the family farm east of Waukomis, and
died Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at her
daughter’s home east of Waukomis.
Mary grew up in the
Pioneer Community and graduated from
ioneer High School. On July 19, 1939, she
married Glen Wehling at the Garfield County
Court House in Enid. They made their home in
Douglas, and then the Pioneer Community.
Mary was a charter member of Jr. Farmerette
(OSU Extension) Club She was a volunteer for
Hospice Circle of Love, the first nurse’s
aide, and then finally as a patient. She was
a school bus driver, caregiver to the elderly,
and community babysitter referred to as
“Grandma Mary”. She was a member of Pleasant
Valley Christian Union Church.
Mary is survived by daughter Vera Mae
Dierksen and husband Loren of Waukomis; two
sons, Larry Dean Wehling and wife Patty of Oklahoma City;
Robert Gene Wehling of Douglas, and
daughter-in-law, Joetta Wehling of Enid; seven grandchildren,
Cindy and Terry Brumfield, Tina Eck, Clay and
Tina Wehling, Lora Dierksen, Dana and Mark
Thrower, ChetWehling, and Jennifer Wehling;
and five great-grandchildren, Brandi and
Dillon Wehling, Danaka, Dayton and Blake
Thrower.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, husband Glen, two brothers John T.
and Donald Edwards; and infant granddaughter
Rhonda Kay Dierksen.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home
to Hospice Circle of Love, Pioneer- Pleasant
Vale Foundation, or Pleasant Valley Christian
Union Church.
