The funeral for Betty
Imogene Whitney, age 82,
of Enid will be held at
10:00 A.M. Saturday,
January 2, 2010, at
Emmanuel Baptist Church
with Rev. Wade Burleson
and Rev. Brad Jurkovich
officiating. Burial
will be at 2:00 P.M. in
the Ferguson Cemetery,
in Ferguson, Kansas with
arrangements by
Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home.
She
was born to Carter
Thurston and Dora
Augusta (Lambke) Jones
on January 27, 1927 in
Waldron, Kansas and died
on Tuesday, December 29,
2009 in Enid at Golden
Oaks Retirement Center.
Betty graduated from
Spring Township High
School. On August 27,
1945 she married Joe
Elmer Whitney at Grandpa
Dorsett’s house in rural
Waldron, Kansas. She
was an active member of
Community Baptist Church
in Hazelton, KS, First
Baptist Church in Pryor,
and Emmanuel Baptist
Church in Enid. She
worked as a bookkeeper
at the Farmers Coop, at
Walmart, and The
American Greeting Card
Company, but Betty’s
favorite job was being a
wife, mother,
grandmother, and
homemaker.
Betty is survived
by her husband Joe of
the home; two sons Joe
Carter Whitney and wife
Kathy of Lubbock, TX,
and Jerry K. Whitney and
wife Teresa of Enid;
three grandchildren
Stephanie Jurkovich and
husband Brad, Brooke
Green and husband David,
and Dustin Whitney; four
great grandchildren
Cassidy, Carter,
Caroline, and Catherine;
and one sister Dorine
Cutright of Byron, Ok.
She was preceded
in death by her parents
Dora and Carter Jones,
four brothers Floyd
Jones, Rollie Jones,
Carl Jones, and Lawrence
Jones, and three sisters
Mina Dautel, Helen
Jones, and Neva Jean
Loeser.
Memorials may be
made through the funeral
home to Emmanuel Baptist
Church Mission Fund.
