Carolyn Jo (Miller) Medley

Carolyn Jo (Miller) Medley was born December 7, 1954, in Enid to Warren and Allie Joyce Miller. She passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at her home in Covington. At an early age, Carolyn learned what it was to work, helping at Miller Packing Plant, their family owned and operated business. Her uncle, Robert Miller, would pay her $1 a day to work the full day. If she left early, she did not get her dollar! Carolyn was a 1973 graduate of Covington High School. She attended Phillips University in Enid where she studied to be a dental assistant. When she entered the workforce, Carolyn worked in retail at K-Mart, served as a secretary at Rider Cabinet Company in Enid for six years and worked at Retail Grocery Inventory Specialists (RGIS). She sold Home Interiors for a number of years, worked at Gateway Truck Stop and opened her own restaurant, the Chat and Chew on Willow in Enid. She operated the restaurant for seven years. In 1975, Carolyn took on her greatest role in life when her daughter Dawnnell Rae was born. She became a mom. She was always there for Dawnnell and all the things she did growing up. She was a band mom, she did it all! She raised her daughter as a single parent – an extremely hard job. She felt like it was the most important job of her life. She would work nights so she could be off during the day to attend Dawnnell’s basketball and softball games and other activities. She rarely missed an opportunity to support her daughter from the sidelines and in the stands. Carolyn loved being a grandma to her three grandchildren, Bralee, Dakota and Jonathan. She would do whatever she could for them and support them in all they did – whether it was pig shows or football games. As long as she could get there, she supported them in their endeavors. She loved it whenever Bralee would paint her nails – a different color for each nail. A fond memory Bralee has of her grandma was when she let her stand on the center console of her car and stick her head out the sunroof while she drove around town. Bralee recalls, “Grandma would say don’t tell your mom!” Carolyn loved the Lord and was raised in church. As a teenager, she was confirmed at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Covington. She liked to play Sudoku. Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Dawnnell Lamb and her husband, Earl, of Covington; her bonus son, David Hoffman and his wife, Mari of Stillwater; three grandchildren, Bralee Lamb of Covington, Dakota Lamb and wife, Billie, of Covington and Jonathan Lamb of Fairview; two bonus granddaughters, Maddi and Myli Hoffman; two great-grandsons, Atreyus and Olliver Lamb and one great-granddaughter arriving in May, Millie. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Alvin Meyer of Covington; four nieces and nephews, Kay Scott and husband Ernie, of Covington; Austin Meyer and wife Mindy, of Douglas; Julie Stowers and husband Mike, of Fairmont; Colby Meyer, of Covington; seven grand-nieces and grand-nephews, McKayla Scott and Vernon Brown, of Covington, Hunter Scott, of Covington, Ashley and Aaron Meyer, both of Douglas, and Allie, Lillie, and Brody Stowers, all of Fairmont, and three great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews, Augustus and Chisholm Scott, and Paisley Brown all of Covington. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Allie Joyce Miller; her sister, Cheryl Ann Meyer and her grandparents, Elmer and Nannie Katherine Miller. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Carolyn’s memory. Funeral service for Carolyn will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 28, 2026 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Covington, with burial at follow in Covington Cemetery. Visitation with the family is Friday evening 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
